Summer has arrived! For students, that means no more hard nights studying and no more waking up early to get to classes. For Santa Cruz people, (or people who live near a beach) it means that we can have a bonfire at the beach on a weeknight or for people elsewhere it means you get to hang out with friends during business hours- not school hours. You get to tan, go on vacation, and be free from school. My last day of school was yesterday and it was fantastic. Twenty minute classes and school out 3 hours early. Who could complain? We just hung out, played spoons, and just had a great time.
To me, personally, summer is a time of memories. I want to create lasting memories of my years as a kid, so I tend to do all that I can in the short 2 months that I have. This year, I intend to spend lots of my summer at the beach, whether with friends or with just myself, my boogie board and the ocean. On Thursday, the entire 6th grade went to the beach for an end of the year trip for fun and it was the most fun I’d ever had at the beach. Just me and my friends hanging out, playing volleyball, and splashing each other in the ocean.
I have a little list of things I want to accomplish by the end of this summer filled with things like making a mini putt-putt course in my backyard, going to every taqueria in town (believe me- there are a ton), learning to surf, hosting a Harry Potter movie marathon, etc… I’ve even made a summer playlist. In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m listening to “Surfin’ USA” by the Beach Boys.
Also, be ready for a brand new video of my entire summer coming out in August. There will probably be a video blog or two and a few poems throughout the next couple of months. Have an awesome weekend!
